I got back to. 905 but have lost root.

Tried to run titanium backup but says i am not rooted.

How can i fix?

Do i need to install ICS first?

Root with motofail and then use voodoo root keeper to temporarily unroot and then restore root with voodoo after you have finished upgrading to ics.
