New message texting contacts problem

Girlfriend has a s4 when ever she goes to start a new conversation. When she types the contact name say "turner" the phone comes up with 887637. As if it was put in on a dial pad. She's currently using the Google keyboard. Does the same thing with the stock Samsung keyboard. So its a messaging program thing. But I can't find a setting for it. Any suggestions?
Phone is stock and up to date.

Did you do a battery pull to see if that fixed the problem?

I did not try that because. She gave me the understanding its been like this since she got the phone(months ago). She has multiple batteries so she does a battery pull every couple days.
