I just received the notification on my phone. I am currently running stock ROM, if I flash a custom ROM I wonder if the annoying notification would stop chiming in until someone figured it out.

Sent from my rooted and ROM'd Droid 2

Stop update:
Rename /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.apk to BlurUpdater_VZW.apk.bak.
Rename /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.odex to BlurUpdater_VZW.odex.bak.
wipe cache

You could just let it download and them move it right?

It will keep reminding you, might redownload, and autoinstall overnight

That would be scary if it auto updated. I did try to update after rooting beforehand and installing rootkeeper but it failed for some reason.

Say we want the benefits of the update without accepting it. Could we just pull the essential files out and manually insert them into our current ROM (Liberty3v2 for me)??

No, you can either take the entire update or none at all. If I had the choice again, I would refuse it and disable the notification.
