help with 2.2, or new phone problems

I recently sent my phone in for the factory waranty because it was freeking out, and when i got my new phone i learned there was a 2.2 update so i updated. I'm trying to figure out why my phone is SOOOOOOOO slow, and why i never noticed a loss of signal with my old phone but now i'm always loosing signal in schools. and have low bars elswhere. could it be because of the 2.2 update or do i just have another defective phone.

if its just the update being retarded, then can i downgrade?
