Mobile Hotspot

Is the mobile hotspot unlimited? or is it like one month of trial and then you have to pay to use it after it? i would love to use the mobile hotspot but im unsure about how it works.. I have an unlimited data package on my phone, but idk if that even matters with Hotspot. I thought i remembered someone saying its one month and then you have to pay, and then someone said you can root it and get unlimited, but when you go to turn it on, there is no warning about data or paying on the D3.. answers?
