text notifications on status bar

I would like to get notifications that i have a new text. I just dont want it to display what it reads in the status bar. The only way i found to stop this was to disable text notifications. If my phone is locked it still shows what the text reads. Any suggestions?

it only shows the text for a few seconds after the message is received for me. is yours persisting until you open and read the message?

just for a second also. but I don't want anyone to read them. it even shows them if the phone is locked
