can someone please explain something to me

I had updated with the maderstcok .2.340. After I updated I then installed the gummyjar rom. I had some trouble with it but finally succeeded. Now my phone settings it says android version 2.2.1 where it was 2.340 after the maderstcok update. What happened?? why did I go back to the 2.2.1 after the rom install? Is there an update to do with this rom that will get me back to the latest?

Um... just so you know, .340 is a firmware/whatever version, whereas 2.2.1 is the actual android version.

Android 2.2.1 = 2.3.340, some roms put in build prop tweaks so your "about phone" info may be misleading. If you flashed mader's update.zip you are on 2.3.340
