I experienced a similar issue on my S3 when connected to FoxFi. I downloaded Wake Lock - PowerManager - Android Apps on Google Play this wake lock app and it solved the problem. I know it's a temporary fix, but it worked great for me and should work for your WiFi issue as well. Good luck!

Well, I haven't tried it yet. Have not had the time and I have to admit... I am a little apprehensive about it; i.e bricking the phone. Right now my WiFi is about 50/50. But I will need to give it a shot fairly soon.
