2.0.1 software

I am trying too root some oof my co-workers phones but they did the 2.1 update. They were messing around with mine and wannted me to get theirs llike that. So I need to reinstall the old software so I can root.

You don't need to go back to 2.0.1 to gain root access

Yes it's really easy...I did my brothers new Droid last night. Flashed the .sbf file of SPRECOVERY, copied the update.zip to his phone, rebooted into recovery and did the update.zip. DONE. I didn't stop there though as we changed his rom, kernal, overclocked it, etc....

Very simple....and yes his new Droid was already 2.1update-1.
