3 Way calling issue

I am able to make the 3 way call, but if the 3rd person doesnt answer and I want to leave a voicemail, how do I hang up after leaving the voicemail and go back to the other caller that I have on hold. I have tried everything but it disconnects both callers. It is really making me crazy, so I hope there is just a simple duh fix..

Use the notification bar. I can't recall the specifics but there's an icon for managing calls.
