3g speed average

I'm SUUUUUUUUUURE this has been discussed before but I'm hoping some of you guys could give me some insight. What is a sustained expected 3g kb/s speed in an urban area? I fluctuate between 105kb/s down to about 50-55. Just wanted to know if I could expect more. (most of my testing has been done inside my office which has a window so I would imagine it wouldn't matter that much). I typically have 2 to 3 3g bars when doing this testing.

Thank You!

I fluctuate from 700 kbps to 1800 kbps down, with it staying in the 1 Mbps range most of the time. As for upload speed, it's always (and I really do mean *always*... I've never seen it fluctuate much) between 700 and 800 kbps, unless I choose a really bad server to do a speedtest with.

Pretty decent, if you ask me.

I average a download speed fluctuating between 1300-2000 kbps. Typically sustained is around 1300-1500. Hope this helps!

i did some wifi tethering last night and had 3 out of 4 bars of 3G service and was getting about .78-.93Mbps down and .4-.5Mbps up. tested with speedtest.net. it was good enough for browsing the forums.

In Philly today waiting for a meeting. Three bars service, Speedtest gave me 1800 down and 900 up. Not sure why the 2:1 ratio but that seems relatively normal.

I should have clarified more. I'm sorry. Speedtest.net is giving me about 1.5 up and .9 down BUT when I actually download a big file (say more than 10 megs) and I can see the transfer speed, it's usually around 125 kilaBYTES per second, not bits.

Yes... it's just like on your browser on your desktop d/l are limited to a % of total bandwidth so it can allow for other uses. You may be able to change it though (I recall an older post talking about changing the d/l / u/l ratios or something to that effect).

Also note that the area your in plays a LARGER part (major meto areas/cities have much more bandwidth than rural areas).

Generally speaking your throughput download rate 125kB/s is going to be 1/8 of your bandwidth tests. 125kBs x 8 = 1mb/s (1000kb/s)

kbs kilobits per second
kBs kilobytes per second

If you are getting 125kBs then it sounds like you are in good, average, shape for 3G speeds.
