3G speed test, why so slow (0.5 Mbps)?

I have a Droid2 running 3G in SE Michigan and at my3gspeed and speedtest, the download speed is always around 0.5 Mbps. With WiFi, that is around 40 Mbps. Do I need to tweak something or download an app?

There is nothing that I know of that you need to tweak. I would call verizon to see if there is a problem in your area. What are your upload speeds?

I did a bunch of speed tests last night in the SF bay area, and was getting the same 0.5Mb. A couple months ago, I was getting triple that.

Seems like Verizon's network is starting to get a little crowded, maybe?

About 0.4-0.5 Mbps, not fast either.
Wiki says 3G should allow up to about 2 Mbps, and I understand that this isn't going to be the case all the time, but I keep getting "capped" at about 0.5 Mbps downstream even in more populated areas closer to Detroit. My 3G bars are always at about 4 bars.

Away from home I used to get about 1mbps but now run about 700-900 but let me get into a less crowded area and I'm zooming at 1.5+mbps. At home I run about 25kbps or worse due to signal. Needless to say I wifi at home

ya ever since i switched over to the droid 2 my speed tests have been like that. Alot of the time when i'm tethering it goes slow too, like i can stream a video without it buffering more a little ways in.

Just checked and found my Droid 2 was 0.45 mbps. I am in Ohio, south of Columbus. What is normal 3g speed? I like my browser speed compared to my last cell, a Titanium Voyager, lol.

This has happened to me to and including swear It's froyo or some bs. Verizon is up to because my wifi use to be so much faster and I don't think my router is any slower because my computer isn't slowing down.

Yah i just did the my3gspeed test on my D2 and i got the 0.5 also. Im up in seattle but when i did the speedtest results the other day it was like 1.10 it gave me Kansas as my city so VZW but be located there.

I always have 3g on my phone, sometime its goes into 1X depending on cell coverage where im at.

I just ran a test and got 2.24mbps down .88mbps up in Central Fla, so I don't think there is any kind of synthetic cap being implemented here...just that all of your locations are below average perhaps?

Signal Stength is at -78dBm also.
