3rd party messaging apps

Does anyone else have a problem with handcent/chomp/go sms apps? Whenever I try one of these on my phone it get very very laggy...I don't mind the stock messaging app, but I like the customization of the other apps...any suggestions?

I'm running rooted OG Droid, UD 2.5, stock kernal (I believe) any help is greatly appreciated!
