4 Bars But No 3G Connection

My Droid cannot get a 3G connection. The status windows shows 4 Bars of good signal but the "3G" or "1X" symbol is not there. I cannot upload photos or send data. Was working just fine last night while was using Google's "Listen" to listen to a podcast. I've turned the phone off and on again several times. A friend of mine has Verizon on an LG phone and he has a 3G connection so I'm confident it is something with my phone.

Suggestions?
