Hey guys!

Just got my maxx the other day, but I'm not new to android at all. I noticed that my 4G kept disconnecting and reconnecting even though it was sitting in one spot the whole time.
I googled it but couldn't find much accept that other people with other 4G lte phones were having the same problem. I called Verizon tech support and told them what was happening.

He told me that he could help me. He told me to call *228 on my phone after he did some provisioning on his computer. Once my phone acknowledged that he did something (said your phone has now been activated or something like that) he said that 4G shouldn't drop because I am in a very good 4G area.

I just have to say what a difference!!! My 4G has not dropped since.

Hope this helps someone!

From what I know, you don't dial *228 on 4g phones. The same process that dialing *228 accomplishes, is done by simply turning the phone off and back on. All I did to activate my first 4g phone was....... turn off the 3g device which was my X2, and insert the sim in my Bionic and turned it on. I called Verizon on my landline, idk what they did... if anything. My phone was active right away.

This is correct. Dialing *228 is not for LTE phones. It can actually damage your SIM card. The tech support speedy0339 talked to is giving out really bad information. Here's a thread in the Thunderbolt forum that talks about it - *228 destroys sim card.

There will be a lot of people who view this thread and only read the first post, so I think the original post should be edited to note that you should not dial *228 on a LTE device. If they dial *228 enough, they're likely to damage their SIM.

As far as I know you guys are correct, it is not good to do this on the Maxx or other 4g phones.

Thread closed.
