Does anyone know if I can purchase the Nexus and activate it myself (from home) with my bionic SIM card - I'd like to get in and out asap and don't want a sales rep rifling around with my new phone, I know we're able to do this with 3G phones but not sure if the same rings true with SIM cards

Thanks :)

I *think* the Gnex is like the Razr and has a micro-sim instead of a normal sim - so if that's the case, no. :(

Yeah, the Bionic has the big one - looks like someone else gets to handle my phone first :serious:

I always picture new toy gone horribly wrong

Actually they program the sim card so just take it home and put it in yourself. Then power up the new phone and you are good to go!

yeah go to Target (Radio Shack) or Best Buy and buy one ($10 or $20 respectively at each place) and you can do it yourself... I don't think the VZW store will let you walk out with one without activating it, at least for free

I guess i am missing something big...
I can't activate this phone like I always have in the past when they ship it to me?

Do not dial 228! Just put the sim in and fire it up! It will activate itself.

Ok, then how do i go about activating it on the persons line that i am using, and then activate it on my line? We live thousands of miles away.

Assuming the phone comes with a 4G sim card, you'll need a new sim card. I've had a replacement Thunderbolt sent to me through their insurance and I couldnt activave it online or using my old sim card from my previous thunderbolt. I had to go into Verizon and have them do it :x

Tell the sales rep to leave all the plastic covers on the phone. You peal them off after it is activated. Worked for me.

OK, I think I understand:
1. buy the phone online using someone else's upgrade (no, they are not on my family plan or otherwise I could just transfer upgrade to my line)
2. The phone arrives, I put the sim card in and activate it (or whatever the instructions say).
3. Buy a sim card for me.
4. Reactivate the person's original phone back onto their line.
5. Take the clean new Nexus awesomeness phone with my sim card to verizon, and tell them I want to put it on my line.

Did I miss anything? Can I activate the phone on my line with the sim card without verizon's help?

Thank you in advance, I never even thought about this issue using someone else's upgrade.

im out of the loop of things. the sim card is for 4g? i always remembered back in the day that sim cards were for non-vzw phones. lol. what's the difference btwn the two?
