A question for rom/kernel devs

Is there a way to force the android gui to use the openGL hardware acceleration from with in the device. I know the X has openGL but nothing really uses it. I read on a dell streak blog they where able to force the openGL acceleration for the system GUI. it dropped their quadrant scores but all seem to think it improved the over all quickness of the android experience. this would make sense because by having the dedicated gpu rendering the GUI and system graphics it would free up the main cpu for apps I/O request not sure if this could be added to the build.prop of the droid X but that is how they did it for the streak. I lost the blog that I read this on I will try to locate it and will link when found. Also they pushed the Dalvik heap to 60m
I did this as well on my X and it runs really fast
