access denied

I can connect my X to my pc with no problems and the file explorer comes up and opens the X drive.
I cannot move any files from the pc onto the X however. When I drag a file onto the X folder I get "access is denied". Exactly as I would from a network drive that hasn't given write permissions.
Any idea why I get this and How it can be resolved?
