Activation Issues

I just have a quick question- hopefully this is in the correct section since it is a technical issue for me.

Can anyone tell me why Verizon never lets me activate a phone through the automated service or through the online service? The phones are never active on another account so that is not the issue.

It has been years since I was able to successfully activate a phone online or through the automated service. When I try online it tells me to call customer service and when I try to do it through the automated service it transfers me to a representative.

Why does Verizon bother to have the automated and online activation options if one cannot use them? You might as well start out calling customer service instead of even trying these two options- or that is how it is for me for some reason.

Does anyone else have this issue or know why this is? Thanks.
