This has probably been posted a bunch of times...but if I could just get a quick easy answer...

do the Live Wallpapers use up a lot of memory AND battery because of their constant running in the background...

Thanks!!:motdroidvert:

Depends on the wallpaper. If you want to play it safe use the provided live wallpapers

Also if programmed correctly the wallpaper will not run in the background

How do you tell? The provided live wallpapers show in task manager as Android Live Wallpaper, downloaded ones show under whatever name, but all show as tasks if they are loaded.

Of course the task will show as loaded, because once you press the home button the live wallpaper needs to be ready to go.

The only way to be 100% sure is look at the source code

OK. But for those of us who aren't. coders...?
I suppose you could do this...

  • fully charge your battery, put on the live wallpaper you want to test
  • load a browser so the live wallpaper is not active
  • unplug your phone from charging
  • continue browsing for 5 minutes or so...
  • then go check what is using up the battery

i haven't tested this but in theory it would let you know if a wallpaper is running in the background
