And therein lies the dilemma. After all, if free apps are the ones deploying the ads, why would anyone want to get Ad-Vanish and the paid versions of the other apps?

I see this as a serious ethical issue. On the one hand, ads are annoying in various ways. On the other hand, they make it possible for more people - especially with limited incomes - to get good apps, not to mention for new developers to publish free apps to gain experience and credibility for later paid apps.

If we make app ads much less profitable for advertisers - and hence for free app developers - will we necessarily like the results?
