After 2.2 update

After I recieved the 2.2 update, and I mean about 2 weeks after, my phone is completely unusable. Motorola Droid. It is not a rooted phone, all stock.
1) The screen light will turn off for about 10 seconds after pressing the lock button, but then turns back on and stays on.
2) On the pysical keyboard, when I press 'j' it writes 'rwys' and a few numbers and symbols. When I press 't' it writes '< 5,/' and turns the phone off.
3) Opens up google search and puts 'ppppppppp' non stop in the search box. I can not even delete or input anything else.
4) Vibrate screen pops up and phone wont stop vibrating.

I cant acsess any apps, and if i'm fast enough I can still get into settings. I've pulled the battery, let it set for half an hour, and it still doesn't work.

So is this something from the update? What do i have to do to fix it? Or would I get a new one and have to lose everything?

Do a factory reset that should clear up your issues.

I was going to try that, but wasn't sure if I could save apps? Like ones I've bought? Some gave me the option to move to my SD card, but others don't

Apps that you have purchased are backed up with your Google checkout account and can easily be re-installed. Others that arent saved to SD card will just have to be downloaded again. I always look at it as a way to purge the apps that you werent using anyway.

There's also the FRG22D full install, if the factory reset alone doesn't do it...

I did a factory reset, and still the exact same problems. I can't even sync my google account. Should I just take it to a Verizon store? I really don't want to trade it in for a refurbished one. Mine worked excelent before the upgrade. Why is my Droid having these problems?

I had similar issues with the update freezing up the phone. End result was a refurb replacement...which is like opening a new door to even more possible issues.
