Alarm silence w/side button doesn't work

I have the stock alarm set to dismiss using the side buttons, but if the phone is locked it doesn't work. If it's in my pocket and I need to silence it quickly, no can do. Got to pull it out and swipe the screen. Can anyone tell me if this is the intended behavior?

I had the same problem with my dinc to silence alarm try hitting the top button that works for me swipe on screen cancels alarm
