Am I alone here?

Excuse me folks, but is anyone else upset that things promised have not appeared. Tethering, voice dial from blue tooth, flash reader, basic cut and paste (when it's not in a text field).

And at times the interface is exasperating. I go to contact info, hit menu, share contact info (via email) and my friend who has a droid can't pull it up on his droid......it says it's unreadable.

I'm beginning to think that now that they have sold their initial wave of droid phones they've quit working on the product. Where are the updates to take care of the failings of the "droid does" product we invested in?

PDAnet (app in Market) will allow tethering.

Wait, when was tethering promised by Verizon? Are you talking about the paid subscription service or a part of the phone (stock)?

Who promised you these? I never got this promise... I feel left out.

But seriously, Google, Motorola, and Verizon are under zero obligation to give us upgrades. They sold us a device with certain advertised features and it does all of those things (everything discussed in their "Droid Does" advertising campaign is feasible with the phone. Plus, it's advertising. It's just a catchy way to sell phones. They never said Droid Does Everything a phone can possibly do"... it's just marketing). It would be completely within their rights to produce the phone and then drop the project completely if they wanted. Despite talk of possible add ons, they don't have to send us anything. And the fact that they are trying to give us upgrades when they don't have to means they can take as long as they need to and include whatever they like.

pretty silly to be complaining about tethering and flash. tethering was a promise for the future which is already available if your root and flash is and has always been planned for q2, and isn't made by motorola so you can't really say they're giving up on the phone.

os 2.1 is also coming out soon with many improvements. i don't know about the other 3 issues you mention but they're hardly major problems indicative that the phone is being ignored and for all i know they'll all be fixed in 2.1 if they aren't user error or doable with a market app already.

Interesting first post. Welcome, anderld47. Hope your outlook gets brighter!

:welcome: to the forum. Sorry you're disappointed in what you've seen so far, but to the best of my knowledge receiving an update almost 1 month to the date or release for performance improvement is pretty good work. And we do know for a fact that 2.1 is right out there on the horizon.

Perhaps this is your first smart phone? Please keep in mind it is a phone, not a computer and be a little more patient. Nobody has given up on the Droid, development will continue.

Who promised you any of these things?

Where is any place where any of these things are officially said that they will be done?

If they are promised, I would be glad to have them.

I just have not seen any official promises that they will be done, nor have I seen any time frames promised.

I would be happy if my exchange account did not get screwed up every few days. Set your expectations much lower.
I keep hearing I should expect this device to have problems because it is new, maybe by the time it gets replaced it will be working.
You are not alone. Let's hope some devs share your issues and write some code to make this work better.
