Android 2.3 update w liberty?

I've had my x for about 5 months now. I rooted it as soon as I got it and never got the 2.3 update (it failed and I didn't feel like unrooting it just for it). I decided to try liberty this week and I like it, bit I can't play videos. From what I've been reading its because I never got that update. Am I SOL? Do I need to go back to bone stock to get the 2.3 update? I've been searching for another solution and just can't find one.

Use the SBF to update

If you mean the 2.2.340 update yeah you need that.. the easiest way is to sbf to stock and then ota up to. 340.. or you can use thr tbh method.. both will get you there but I would strongly recommend just to sbf and ota. You can back everything up with titanium and it'll be fine :)

Google and find Maderstcok340.Zip . It is a zip file you flash like any rom but it first downgrades you to the leak 320 then updates all files to 340 bootloader, baseband, kernel, everything in one go taking two minutes. When the phone reboots you are out of the box clean .340 OTA. You lose root doing this so keep z4root on your sd card to save time.

Here you go: http://www.android.net/forum/motorola-droid-x/58365-maderstcok-ota-2-3-340-update-zip.html

Hi guys - thanks for the info. I checked my android version and it says I'm running:
Android: 2.2.1
Baseband: BP_C_01.09.07P
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-g23d7ba5

according to the maderstcok link, it says I need to be running one of the 2.3 versions before I use that. I swear before I flashed liberty it was running one of the earlier 2.3 ones. It was the 2.3.340 that I didn't get (I remember now because my wife has the same phone and I remember when she got hers).

I guess sbf is my only option?

The system version is what you need to check.. not too familiar with maderstock but ive heard good thinngs.. you could sbf but you wouldn't want to use the wrong one... you should find your system version first ;)

hmm... I don't see a system version in my "About Phone"

Here's what I have:
System Updates - says I'm up to date

Legal Information
Safety Information
System Tutorial
Model Number - DROIDX
Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband version BP_C_01.09.07P
Kernel version 2.6.32.9-g23d7ba5 w30471@il93lnxdroid08 #01
Build number: VZW
MOD/ROM Version Liberty v1.0

Is it somewhere else?

Just an FYI...
About phone displays whatever is in /system/build.prop (which has been COMPLETELY replaced by whatever ROM you're using.

I believe the ONLY item that isn't pulled from the text file (build.prop), is the kernel version, which is the actual version of the kernel you are running...

Also, you are confusing the version of Android (2.1, 2.2, and 2.2.1) with the Moto update versions (2.3.9, 1.2.13, 2.3.15, 2.3.151, 2.3.320, 2.3.340).

The Maderstcok update will upgrade you from pretty much ANY previous version up to the latest (android version 2.2.1, update version 2.3.340).

Edit: And just so you know, the version of the kernel you listed is the 2.3.151 (2.2) version... after you maderstock, then re-root using z4, then rebootstrap, etc., you'll be on the 2.3.340 version: 2.6.32.9-g55626e1

Excellent. Thank you! I'm a bit new to Droid Modding, so the relatively similar version numbers between the different things were confusing. Ill give maderstcok a try and see what happens.

I think I ran the Maderstock update last month, but might have sbf'd over it. Is there a way to check an see if I have the latest 2.3.340?

That's the interesting part.. the "2.3.340 update" comes in parts... kernel/bootloader/baseband/system, etc.

You CAN verify the kernel version under about phone.. if you used maderstock, it should be the 2.3.340 kernel (2.6.32.9-g55626e1)
If you've done the 2.3.320 .sbf since then, then all of the 2.3.340 stuff will likely have been reverted to 2.3.320 versions... they can be updated from 2.3.320 to 2.3.340 by 2 methods that I'm aware of...
1) maderstcok:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-rooted-help/112152-maderstcok-ota-2-3-340-update-zip.html
2) The individual TBH patches:
TBH Patches: 2.3.340-System, Baseband, 2.3.340-Kernel, Bootloader
