We are starting to get a couple of signs pointing towards a new Android OS update very soon, possibly as early as next week! It's been almost completely silent on the Gingerbread front with very little information leaking out or details left at bars for others to find and publish. (haha) The next version of Android gets branded with the Gingerbread code name and the big yummy mascot now has it's spot among the Google campus. See the video below in case you missed it:

Last week google releases an update to Google Maps. It appears to be the same on the surface, but digging a little deeper revels a folder that includes styling for API level 9. The current API for Froyo (Android 2.2) is level 8. While it's not a dramatic change, the interface is slightly more refined with new buttons and the slight-transparency over pop-up dialogs.

Adobe is set to release a new Flash Player update 11/9 version 10.1.105.x. Not only will the update fix a security issues but the description also includes some text that reads "Please install the upcoming 11/9 update (ver. 10.1.105.x) to ensure that Flash Player loads properly with future OS updates."

According to "trusted" source of IntoMobile, it was confirmed the SDK for the upcoming Android OS will make it's debut November 11th. Three days before this expected announcement from Google, Samsung has been rumored to unveil the Nexus 2, the first android phone powered with Gingerbread crumbs.

Do you think we'll have our hands on some Gingerbread before the turkey's out of the oven? If you've found any more signs suggesting a release next week let us know!

11/11 date may be the day they make it available for devs. I don't think you'll see phones getting it.

That would be fun. Get a Droid 2 Global & update it to Gingerbread the same day lol.

I hope it does release the 11th but i doubt it. Its amazing how secretive google has been able to be about it, you would think there would be more leaks or something.

What phones will be covered or capable to for the update? Droid 1?

lol if this does come out on the 11th bday present for me even though i believe this is not gonna come out on the moto droid 1

Since the specs for Gingerbread are higher than what the D1 has, I doubt there will be an OTA update for it, but that doesn't mean there won't be a rom. I hope to see some custom roms for the DX with it.

Where have you seen the "requirements" for Gingerbread?
I've seen rumours about what is recommended......

It probably won't get an official Gingerbread release, but there are not going to be "required" specs...

There is NO way that the G2 will not get Gingerbread, and it is 800mhz... soooooo, that tells me those rumoured requirements are bull doo-doo.

Just as a couple quick thoughts here, their were some "rumors" that basically said that tablets might get their own flavor of android. Maybe Gingerbread is that flavor? But this is speculation, and as a rebuttle to my statement, i dont see many tablets that even come close to those "recommended" specs... (only a couple really...) Who knows, guess we will wait and see. Maybe all the popular companies have been waiting for google to come out with it before they release their own tablets?

I could see the Droid 1 not getting Gingerbread if it was still being called 3.0, but the fact that it's now 2.3 makes me think it's more of an upgrade closer from Froyo as opposed to a truly new version with higher specs.

I mean, the Nexus One is getting Gingerbread. Why not the Droid 1?

Only interested in 2.3 on my D1 if it restores the speed and responsiveness that was lost with the 2.2 release. I'd like to go back to 2.1.
