android tablets...

So I was thinking about getting and android tablet due to the fact I get tired of dragging my laptop everywhere. The thing that kinda keeps me from jumping on one is the fact that they all seem to be running 1.5 or so. Has anyone ever rooted one of these suckers or point me in the right direction as to how?
