Hello just got a my touch 3g with android and have to say I am pretty impressed. The free apps are very cool and all the free ringtones is sweet cause I am obsessed with Transformers and there are so many. I do have one question, how do I get my name on the unlock screen where it says this phone belongs to?

Welcome!

Not sure about the MyTouch question you asked, hopefully someone can chime in with the answer!

Welcome to the forum. I too have to pass on the my touch questions. Hopefully if we keep this thread alive someone with my touch knowledge will pop on and help out.

Rooting is giving yourself administrative rights so you can acces areas of your phone otherwise blocked.

I believe its for all android phones it just might not be available for yours yet. Don't really know. Not familiar with my touch.

Guess I will just need to wait then, there are quite a few things I want to delete like all the google chat crap that I will never use..

I'm not up to date, how long has your phone been on the market approx?

I would imagine there's a root method out there then.

Howdy! Welcome to the Droid forums!
Regardless of whatever many pretentious Droid owners tell you, a Droid is just an Android phone, so our phones are dang near the same as yours (with a few tweaks that the carriers/manufacturer put on).

Did a quick google search and the XDA geniuses have rooted a mytouch 3g!
[How-To] Root and un-root the T-Mobile myTouch 3G - xda-developers

However you haven't said which mytouch 3g you had.
There is huge lettering which says:
Proceed on your own risk, you might brick your phone!!!
This method is written for the original MT3G back in 2009, DONT USE IT on the Fender/MT3G 1.2!!!

You can also try Visionary, available on the market.
VISIONary - Android app on AppBrain
VISIONary is now confirmed working on the T-Mo G2, Desire HD, Desire Z & MyTouch 2.2.1.

If you do not know what this is, do NOT download!

Further details are available at 03/Nov r10: VISIONary - one click root - Android @ MoDaCo

This application is undergoing continual development, please feedback issues on MoDaCo rather than in comments.
