Antivirus?

Is an antivirus or security application like Lookout something that is needed? Or, does the android system not require it.

Not needed. Droid is based on linux. I have never used anti virus software on my droid.

I think the previous posters should be mildly corrected. It is unnecessary...for now. While there are some maliciously programmed apps floating around out there, especially those that take advantage of root user permissions, there doesn't seem to be any true Android "viruses" floating around. As Stelv mentioned, one of the main reasons is that the Android OS is based on Linux and I'd assume about 98% of trojans, viruses, malicious applications and code are all based off a Windows platform. Is that to say Windows phones will be plagued with threats? Who knows...For the time being though, having an antivirus app on an Android phone is just a waste of time, memory, and depending how gullible some people are, money...
