app 2 sd?

Is this possible? I just finished setting up my droid to handle all the apps I use on a pretty regular basis and now it hit me with a "low storage" icon.

I searched around and people mentioned a app called "app2sd" but I searched the market place and didn't find it? Is there a way to put my apps on my sd card? Is rooting my only option to put them on my card? Thanks for some help :)

I have about 78 apps currently that I use. I tried finding apps like meebo (for chatting) that will handle multiple chat programs at once in hopes of saving space.

Apps2SD is a feature of the CyanogenMod Rom (a custom 2.1 rom) and those that are copies of his Rom.

It will be a feature in the official 2.2 update coming....but currently the only way to get it is to run CyanogenMod on a Rooted phone.

I run UD, BB, and CM... and im not a little drama-lovin teennage girl

Neither am i. I just run the best ROM out in my opinion.

The irony is that android by nature is "free source" no matter who makes whatever changes they can always be improved on. That is what it's about.

Not having or being able to understand that is problematic for some.

Analogies......

Ford builds a Mustang. 2 people buy the exact same model with identical options. Then person one puts on 5 performance parts. Person two puts on the same performance parts but modifies the parts to work more efficient.

Thats the theory of android. Open source for the advancement of the OS.

I'm running BB with LUNA theme. So there is no way to get Apps2SD with what I have??

Yea, I don't believe you can on BB quite yet. Oh and thanks for using my LUNHA theme buddy! haha...

Dang! lol

And your welcome, thanks for making it. Anyway to theme up Hancent?? I used the stock messaging app for awhile JUST because you themed it, but after awhile it gets annoying, plus Hancent is what most people use anyways. Or is theming a non stocked app like impossible? Like theming it and sending that specific APK to everyone? Maybe if you get a high demand from this forum if I were to post a thread about it or something? Thanks!

If not, it's ok. I like what you did with the stock but idk how much people use that still compared to hancent

Hard to say without a thorough diagnosis of your phone app configuration, but I suspect your problem may lie with your apps dragging unneeded cache and data into memory when they run. I've found that periodic clearing of data (when an app allows it) and cache will usually eliminate the "low memory" problem. Likely culprits in this scenario are email and messaging apps. (I seldom message but I get a lot of email on my phone.)

Some apps already enable you to offload data to the SD Card. If they don't you can choose to back up data if you are concerned about losing it.

To identify the apps that have the largest cache and data, you might try downloading "Quick App Clean Cache" from the Market. It's about a buck.

As far as running apps from the SDCard, the feature provided in Froyo apparently leaves this option with the application developer. It's not clear (to me) whether the developer can then pass the option on to the user if he/she chooses. The reasoning apparently is that the developer is in the best position to determine whether performance is impacted by such a change. And for paid apps, preventing an app from running from the SD card inhibits piracy.
