App data backup

Ok so my wife has finally decided to let mw root her phone. Only thing is I have to figure out how to back up her Tapfish game so that,she doesnt have to start all over. Believe me theres a lot of time on the game and she loves it so I dont want her to lose it. I've moved it to the SD card and tried a few apps that claim to back up app data but so far no luck. Shes not rooted yet so titanium isn't an option. Any info our ideas would be fantastic. I wanna bring her to the root community lol, but I have to protect the fishes.....(yea, go figure)

It depends what phone because when I rooted my Droid, nothing got deleted and it just gave me the Superuser app, but my tablet had to lose all. But I don't think you can backup app data without root
