Is there a Droid app that announces who is calling in an audible voice? I remember I had something like that on my Eris, but I don't remember what it's called.

One of the problems with voice announce is that the ringtone is sounding while the caller's name is announced, making it difficult to hear clearly. On my LG8700, I'd get the voice announce first, then the ringtone would start. When I tried to set it up on my Droid, the ringtone and voice announce started at the same time. The only way around would be a custom ringtone with no sound for the first few seconds.
Vlingo! That is the one I used before! Thank you, mountainbiker. And yes, I agree, Lena, that the ringtone drowns out the voice with the app I have on there. I did notice with Vlingo when I had it on the Eris that I was able to hear the voice more clearly than this app. This app is good, but I will try Vlingo.
Yeah I didn't see that in the settings either. Oh well, that's fine. I am liking the Caller ID one that mountaineer suggested. While I was actually in my car last night the phone rang then stopped ringing and all I heard was the alert from Caller ID. Strange.
Tried it on my unrooted Droid 1 FroYo 2.2
Set it to announce before starting ringtone.
Didn't work that way.
Set it to announce complete name (not just first name)
Didn't work that way.
Restarted phone.
Next call caused phone to shut down.
Tried again.
Does not follow settings, announces first name only, during ringtone.
Not what I wanted; not what the app claimed it could do.
Uninstalled.
Not sure if people are getting tired of replies like this but Tasker can definitely do this (among other things). I just set up a profile to announce the caller by name, if available. If not available it will announce the number. Blocked/unknown calls are referred to as "absent number" with the latter. The announcement is completely customizable using the Say action in Tasker and the appropriate variables (%CNAME for caller name, %CNUM for caller number, etc).
