I remember I use to have a app that allowed me to play music from computer on my droid. I must of uninstalled this app awhile ago an I don't remember what is was called. Anyone know what I'm talking about or suggest anything similar?
nope... gmote lets you manage the music in your computer like a remote control. but to listen to the music in the computer through your phone is completely different.
Yeah gmote was the one. As far as orb goes, that's nice software but I don't like it because it has to be done through the browser. If there was a app then it would be A LOT better.
Just tried gmote again and you have to be on wifi to stream music to the phone. Not exactly what I wanted.
you can set up your router to forward the required port (8889 i think) so you can stream to anywhere you have 3g. i stream my itunes music folder and all my pictures using gmote wherever i am. the built in media players can be greatly improved but for what its capable of, and for free at that, theres no complaints here from me.

Im assuming you know how to log into your router and access/edit its settings. if not, look up port forwarding on your specific router model. Its usually a site you go to and log into for router settings. also go to gmote.org/faq to learn more about how to connect to your pc with 3g instead of wifi.
I am going to have to try setting up the router. But being greedy, have you had any luck with video coming across as well? I have music coming through using WiFi, it says it can handle video in mp4 format, but then when I try tells me that there is not player to play that format. It is ok if video doesn't come through, but thought I would ask if anyone has been successful doing this.

i havent been able to stream any video to the droid. even "known working" formats dont play for me. BUT, the playback ability in gmote is in beta anyway so its acceptable for now.
I can't get Gmote to work with my Windows 7 Pro (64bit) computer.
Was hoping for accessing through 3G but at the moment I can't even get it to work through my wifi network!
I have port 8889 open through my router, I have the correct local ip of my computer, but I just can not get it to work! Windows Firewall is set to allow gmote server, my PeerBlock is currently disabled; any ideas?
