App update notification

Can someone please tell me how to get app update notifications without having to clear cache on market, force close, restart market and reboot? This has been the case on my d1 since that last useless 2.2.2 update. Getting notifications after I know they're there is kind of useless... I know some are annoyed by notification but I actually think it's a good thing. And I do NOT want to wipe my phone.... of course that is... IF it's possible.
