app update question

Hi, I have searched and found some post with this message, but not exactly the same. I show that I have updates and they fail with the message cannot update on usb or sdcard. This only happens when the original app is on my sdcard. I have found a way around it. I put it back to the phone..then it will update and I move it back to the sdcard. My question is..Is there a way around this? One or two updates is not a problem, but this morning I had 28 updates and they were all on my sdcard. It took me about an hour and a half to keep going back and forth from settings to the market. (almost felt like work!) I don't understand if it is as simple as a setting that I have wrong, or if there is an app that tells the update that the app is on the sdcard, or if the way I described above is the only solution. Obviously having the original Droid there is not much space to keep a lot of apps on the phone. Sorry if I missed an answer to this while searching and thanks in advance for any help.
