Apps in the Market only?

Are all of the Apps for Android only in the Market? Or are there some apps that are not available in the Market (third party)? If so, maybe we can discuss them here, give recommendations, etc. Does anyone know any good ones??

Not all apps have to go through the market, it's just the easiest way to get them out there, since all the phones come with that app and can search. There are some older apps that were only supposed to work with older OS's and other carriers. Sherpa is a good one, that you can download the APK for and it still works on our phone. While it may not have the most recent events, i've found it's pretty up to date.
