apps running in the background

I use advanced task killer but why is it after 1 minute I go back into ATK and at least 8 apps are back up and running when I didnt even open them. Do I have to worry? Does this problem contribute to draining batter life faster?

App killer is a waste of space in my opinion... The programs only source power to themselves when they need it. So my rational is, if your going to put an app on your phone and it only uses power when it needs to then why use an app that kills it off... I want it but I don't want it? Haha...
