Backup Assistat Problem

I ported a new number from T-mobile, I lost all my contacts, Backup assistant doesn't work. Called Verizon they couldn't figure it ou either. They had me do it from G mail which it did work but I would much rather use Backup assistant. Can it be uninstalled and reinstalled? Please help.
