Backup non-market apps for recovery after factory reset?

I have a couple of apps that I downloaded from non-market sources that I am not sure I can replace easily. My phone is having problems and I believe I have to do a factory reset on my phone. How can I back those apps up to my computer (mac) or something so that I can recover them easily after factory reset? My phone is not rooted and I don't know the first thing about rooting...

Thanks for any help!

Attach phone to computer via usb, find the files to keep, drag and drop onto the computer.
