Barnacle: Limit sms, mms, email and phone call

Is there a way to disable the phone from checking for new sms, mms, email and allowing phone calls while using barnacle? Since Verizon phones can't browse the internet and receive things over the network at the same time, it makes it awful hard to browse the internet using barnacle.
