Battery Charging Question

I have had my Droid since November 6. Yesterday all was well, and as is habit, I put it on the charger on standby before going to bed. It was at 80%.

I woke up some hours later, and noticed the little white light glowing-which I believe it only glows while it is actively charging. Took it off the charger and I looked and it was still at 80%. Huh? It had been on the charger for 8 hours but hadnt charged? I could charge it from nearly totally drained to 100% in far far less time than that normally. Nothing was running (ie WiFi and GPS off etc) except the normal annoying won't-die apps (ie calendar, settings). The screen was off when I went to bed, and off when I got up (hmmm was my Droid doing middle of the night things?). Looked at what had been using the battery-nothing abnormal. Not near anything magnetic or a computer or anything else electronic-sitting on my granite countertop next to my basket of bananas lol!

I put it back on the charger thinking well just maybe it wasn't all the way connected and not getting "juice". Left it for 90 minutes. Still only at 80%.

I plugged something else into the outlet thinking maybe the outlet went bad or the gfci was tripped or something. (I know even less about electricity than I do about smart phones lol!). Nope-outlet worked fine.

So I powered Droid off to get the bat wings and red eye, and immediately turned it back on. As soon as it came back up, it showed "Battery Full" and 100%.

Bad Droid? Bad charger? Something bad in the display? Bad port (that is what finally did in my EnV2)? Droid just needs an occasional power off nap? Any idea why it wouldn't show fully charged in 8 hours, then immediately after powering off at 80%, come back at "battery full 100%"?

No I dont have a separate app. Should I? I was just using the Droid "about phone" and the home screen where it displays battery status.

Well, it is not the 'best' way to look at your phone's Battery status. :)

Although the reason I asked is that also some widget/apps that do the same thing will also report incorrectly at times due to something. I would probably guess it has something to do with the OS wiggin a little as a possibility.

Darn. Having the same issue. But restarting the phone does not solve it this time. It simply will not register a charge over 80% notwithstanding having been charging for a couple hours. Should I try pulling the battery and reinstalling it?

Speaking of charging (and speaking as a newbie) does the Droid work better if I wait until it's fully drained to start charging it back up to full? or is it fine to charge when I'm at say, 50%?

And whats the average battery hold you guys get? I'm usually up at 7:00 ish and don't use it much when I'm at work, maybe some texting here and there, and a few jabs at the net. I'm out of work at 5pm. When I get home, I'm using it a lot looking at apps, internet, texting, etc. Maybe 2-3 phone calls a day on average. It's telling me I'm at 20% and need to charge by 8-9pm.

That seems like an excessive batt drain to me. It's been like this since I got it. Is it normal?

With all my phones, I charge overnight out of habit, but with the Droid, I seem to have to throw it on the charger way before I'm ready to go to bed at night.
