Battery life while Texting

Has anyone else noticed that when texting a lot, battery life drops quickly?

I'm using the stock messaging app because it's plain and simple. Yes I know there are others out there but I like this one. I have noticed that doing a lot of texting the battery drops quickly. Is there a way to lessen the battery drain?

Thanks
Michael

Your biggest drain while texting should be the screen being on constantly. Lowering your brightness would help the most.

What Cobra said.

The #1 battery drainer of any phone is the screen, especially one as high quality of the s4.

I know you like the stock messaging app, but I don't recall there being a "dark mode". I've switched to an app called Textra and it is the best 3rd party texting app imo. No lag, very quick, and has a dark mode. Has a bit of customization but most importantly it doesn't freeze up like the stock messenger does on mine.

I knew the screen does suck the battery dry and the is why my brightness is at 50%.

I will try the dark theme in textra and see if things change.

Thanks

Textra seems to be doing better or I just didn't text a lot today. Did a lot with my phone today, Texting, talking, internet, Navigation, news, etc. I hope tomorrow goes just as well.

The dark theme in textra really does help quite a bit as it takes much less juice to emit a darker color than it does white like in the stock messaging app. Glad to hear you like the app though and are seeing an increase of battery life.

Just downloaded Textra and find it's great, better than the stock messaging. I too use the dark.

Yup, I never turned back once I switched to Textra. I tried opening the stock messaging app and I guess with the amount of messages I have it keeps freezing when I open threads in the app. No way I'd ever go back now

After seeing this thread, I switched to Textra even though I wasn't having issues with the stock app. I like the look and the features. Had a problem sending a picture, but a day later I see they patched it for that, though haven't retried. Doubt it really saves any power though.
