I always wondered why this did not come stock on any of the Google platforms and instead I have to flash a mod. Is this an apple patent?

No idea, bit inconvenient, but I use Circle Battery Widget. Nice and clean looking and the numbers/circle can be adjusted to any size for easier viewing.

I use Battery Indicator...it puts a small icon with the battery percentage on the left side of the status bar.

That's my favorite too. I just wish they would add an option to put it in the notification bar. It says on their page that they're going to do that with the next update, but I think their last update was in March, so who knows when that'll be.
