Best way to upgrade from my OG Droid

My Rezound should be here tomorrow and I'm trying to work out how to deal with my apps and data and I have a few questions.

* I don't think I want the Market app. to automatically try to download and install my old apps. Do I need to go into the market web site and change some setting?

* I had planned to update all my apps on the Droid, make a backup with Titanium Backup (TB), install my most important apps on the Rezound via the market, and then use TB to restore the data only for those few apps that I actually care about. The problem with this is that TB requires root and I was hoping to hold off on rooting for a week or so until I was confident that there weren't any hardware problems that would require a return. Is there a good alternative?

When you switch phones, the market will not automatically download previously installed apps. As to the question about backing up/restoring without root...No there isn't a really good way to get as much as TI or mybackupPro with root access.

Under My Apps, the play store has all your apps listed under installed or all, including free ones. Just go to all and install the ones you want

Ya for data both devices will need root. Just root the rezound, you know you wanna!

 In all seriousness it's starting to sound like root + restore might be faster than manually re-entering all my settings for things like Taptalk, Ipcamera etc.

Yeah I noticed this recently. This is a new feature right? Under "All" it shows every app I've ever downloaded ever since late 2009. Pretty cool!

That is correct. It used to only show paid

Well that was strange. My wife's Resound automatically re-installed all her old apps right away when I set it up but mine didn't.

The market is random. It sometimes auto downloads and sometimes doesn't when you get a new device. I notice that when I am trying different roms. It's happened on multiple devices for me, not sure why.
