Bionic JB has been rooted!!!

Oddly enough I came here to see if it had. I shouldn't be surprised because some of these guys find root before the phone is even released. lol
 
If that's the case and its Linux only you should be able to do it. You can dual boot Ubuntu or even run it off a USB stick.

Yea, you don't even have to install the Linux OS, but its more fun if you do. :) I would recommend 12.04 long term support.

I tried with a clean 12.04 install first and ran into issues with the samba install so I would recommend using 12.10 unless you know samba is installed and functional
