blank screen help

First my friend has a droid that he can't even use anymore phone turns on but no apps at all on his screen don't know what he did. My phone will sometimes freak out if I hit too many buttons the apps disappear I have to shut the phone off and then they appear when I turn it back on. What gives

Not sure what the technical term is but my sense is by pressing "too many buttons" you are short circuiting the OS and it does not know what to do. Are you intentionally pressing the buttons or are you trying to accomplish something.

Ill just be switching from app to app and then it'll happen just randomly
