Broken Screen...Lost Pics?

I dropped my phone and broke the screen. The phone still worked and would ring, but the screen stayed black. I have insurance and received the replacement, but I need to get my pictures, videos, and voice recordings off the old phone. I tried to plug it into my computer, but nothing happened. It was not showing a usb connection at all, but the charge light came on the phone. I tried taking out the SD card and putting it in the new phone, but I can't find any of what I'm looking for on it. I have to send the broken phone back asap, but really want my pictures at least. Any ideas in English would be greatly appreciated (I don't understand most of the techie speak).

Longshot .... take it to a Verizon store and see if they can pull them out - may cost you something, but ask them first if they can access internal memory with a nonworking screen.

I tried and they couldn't do anything. I had to get a new phone and lost all my pics
