busy signal through speaker when phone not in use

So my girlfriend and i are vacationing in puerto rico right now and her phone (rezound) makes a busy signal sound through the speaker, even in airplane mode. Any ideas!!? Sucks cause my nexus doesn't take the quality pictures the rezound does for our trip, but that sound is driving us nuts! I thought it would be a roaming notification or something, but that idea is out the window when I put it in airplane mode. Thanks for the help

try taking the sim card out? or dial *#*#4636#*#* and try turning the radio off
