The good news is that the Verizon variants of the Pixel and Pixel XL are already bootloader unlockable. The bad news is that it won't be for long. Jcase one of the develops behind the dePixel8 bootloader unlock has said that this method will stop working after the November security patch update. The method actually allows you to run the OEM unlock command. This means that if you jump on the bandwagon now and get that bootloader unlocked it won't matter if Verizon patches up the method since your phone will already have an unlocked bootloader.

This is nothing new. Carriers have been playing the cat and mouse game with developers since the Motorola Droid X and before. There is no word as to whether or not the patched version will ever be bootloader unlockable. You should just expect that it won't and go ahead and get your bootloaders unlocked now!
