Caller cannot hear me

JulieD

New Member
I am having an issue with my Droid and hoping that someone can assist me. I am assuming it has something to do with the sensors during a phone call. Most of the time, my phone behaves as it is supposed to. I will make a call, put it up to my ear and the phone blacks out like the sensor is supposed to and all works well. I even have calls that start out like this.

But then somehow in the middle of the call the person on the other end cannot hear me, I can hear them. When I look at the phone I have the phone dialer up. My original call is in the notifications bar. It is behaving as if I have selected "add a call". I am then in a race against the caller's frustration level to try to get the call back. It is never as easy as just pulling down the bar and then selecting the call and the screen continues to black out.

Which is why I am assuming it has something to do with sensors ... at some point in time during the call, the screen has come back active and my hand maybe has touched the 'add a call' button.

Does anyone have this same behavior to give me some insight as to what exactly is going on and how to avoid it?
TIA!

How long is your hair, Julie? Don't mean to be personal, but it's a known problem that the Droid proximity sensor can be disrupted by long hair. On the other hand, it's also possible that your phone has a hardware problem.

Yes hair can be an issue. However there are additional things you can do to make sure your phone is in top notch quality. First dial *228, option 2 and update your prls. After doing that try this on your phone enter ##program, tap your green receiver button, enter code 000000, select 04 (vodecode) and then select EVRC-B. Do not select anything else in this area.

If that doesn't work you may indeed have a hardware issue. Take it back and get another. Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick replies.

My hair is of short-medium length. If long hair is an issue, I wouldn't fall into that catgory.

##program
Can you clarify what this means? I do not understand the 'program' instruction.

Just type out the word "program" after the two ## signs.. ;)

After you've selected the EVRC-B, your phone will automatically restart after a few seconds. At that point you may notice an improvement in call quality. :)mikey

Don't I feel silly now.

Okay, I went through those steps. I'll give this a try for a few days and see if I an improvement in performance.

Thanks for all the help.

I have this same problem...it seems to me as if the phone is unlocking too soon after being pulled away from my face. Is there a setting I can change so that after the phone is pulled away and the sensor no longer detects anything it still has to wait maybe 5 seconds? While talking on the phone I don't constantly hold it against my head as it gets uncomfortable, which then causes my phone to become unlocked. I tried going to the home screen during calls, but this still causes problems. Last time I tried this I got off the call and I somehow had the email screen open ready to send an email and I'd managed to change the background on my phone.

This seems like it could be a fairly simple app and might solve the problem, but nevertheless this is very frustrating. Any chance this might be fixed in the 2.1 update?

Thanks

My wife seems to have this problem too. I think her screen comes up in the middle of a conversation and her cheek presses the buttons on the screen. I still havent figured out why hers does it, but if she uses mine, it works just fine. Very odd.

I'm having the same issue with my Droid. I've tried the following methods suggested by other members with no luck. Please help...

1. disabled voice privacy
2. factory data reset
3. Hook's suggestion in post #3

Thanks
